The Nokia Lumia 2520 has been officially launched at the Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi today. The Windows RT tablet from Nokia has been leaked before, and has since been much awaited for a long time. But now Nokia has made it clear that they are in the tablet market and are aiming to make the device more mobile than other tablets have been. Stephen Elop specifically mentioned in the keynote how Nokia is targeting the usage times that the traditional tablets cannot work in, like during the day other than mornings or evenings, by adding 4G LTE functionality, better portability and better battery life. The 10.1 tablet, running on Windows RT is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 – MSM8974 chipset which provides the LTE functionality as well as blazing fast Quad Core performance for the Lumia 2520. Before we dive in to the details, here’s an official hands on video from Nokia -
Talking of portability, the device comes in at 8.9mm of thickness and weighs 615g. As you can see from the photo above, the dimensions have been achieved thanks to Nokia’s unibody design and with it comes the polycarbonate colours. The white and Red are glossy while the Cyan and Black are matte finish. The 10.1 inch screen is being touted as one of the best 1080p panels on a 10.1 inch tablet, with brightness of 650 nits and reflectance at under 6%. Really impressive figures for the screen there. There are a lot more features on the Lumia 2520, but lets go through the full specs now -

It also has a 4G LTE Micro SIM slot, a micro SD slot for expansion of the in-built 32 GB storage. Priced at $499, the device is slated to be one of the cheaper LTE tablets available in the market. Along with the Power Cover, the only thing stopping the Lumia 2520 is the Windows RT and the apps. But Nokia is planning to fix some of it too. There is the same Nokia Story Teller app for Windows too, which works as a decent alternative to the bare-bones default photo app with a focus on timeline and facebook integration. Other apps that are coming to the platform are Flipboard, the uber popular magazine app and complementing the whole mapping experience is the Here Maps and Drive apps coming to Windows. Nokia Video Director is another new video editing app that proves to be simple with a radical new user interface.
Microsoft Outlook and Office are naturally pre-installed and so are all the other usual Microsoft services and apps. The roll out is set to begin in the US and Finland soon, with other countries to follow within this year and beyond. Look out for our hands on and photogalleries from the event today, we will be letting you know more about the Lumia 2520 soon.
